Meet Tulip

Pregnant, homeless, hungry, heartworm positive, and shot in the leg. That’s how Tulip’s story begins.

At just 3 years old, Tulip’s short life is a story of resilience and demonstrates the critical need for rescue volunteers, donors, and adopters just like you. This petite, 38-pound black Labrador mix first appeared as a stray at someone’s home in north Florida. They fed her for a while but eventually Tulip made her way to a shelter, and that’s when Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida stepped in. Thanks to a dedicated volunteer in Florida’s panhandle region, Tulip—and her eight puppies—were rescued and brought to safety.

Despite overwhelming challenges, Tulip has proven to be a sweet, resilient soul. She cared for her puppies while recovering from a gunshot wound that threatened her leg. Against the odds, Tulip is now healing, weaning her pups, and preparing to start three months of heartworm treatment. Through it all, Tulip has shown that she is a smart and friendly girl that gives great eye contact. She's good with other large dogs and has lived with up to four at once. After carrying and nursing eight puppies as a stray, Tulip is underweight and needs to gain around 10 pounds to reach her ideal size. Even then, she’ll remain the perfect size for a snuggle companion on the couch. With love, patience, and time to heal, Tulip will also be ready to join you on long walks and adventures.

Tulip is house trained and will make a great addition to a loving home. Now safe with LRRoF, she will receive the medical care she needs to save her injured leg, treat her heartworm disease, and help her thrive. Thanks to the dedication and generosity of our volunteers and donors, Tulip’s story has begun to change—and the next chapters could be her happiest yet.

Will you be the hero who gives Tulip her happily-ever-after?
