Description: | Hi there, my name is Patrick. I’m about 8 years old, and was found running loose. They couldn’t catch me, so they darted me and my days on the run were over. The first foster I had was well-intended, but I managed to escape into his shed and refused to come out because I was very scared. So, they brought me up to Tampa where I’ve been living at a kennel for the last few years. Honestly, I don’t mind it too much. It’s very routine, and I like it because it makes me feel safe. There aren’t a lot of changes, and that’s great. About a year ago, I started making friends with a trainer. I really didn’t trust her at first, but eventually, I learned that, even though she was new, she wasn’t all that bad. Besides, she had hot dogs, and, let’s face it, those don’t come around to the kennel too often. She’s been visiting me for over a year now, and I’ve learned that some changes are actually very fun! I’ve learned to enjoy treat puzzles, explore new places, and even how to wear a harness! The best thing is that I’ve learned that new people aren’t scary, and I really want them to pay attention to me now when they visit me at the kennel. I’ll be honest, the thought of moving into a home still scares me a bit, but I’ve learned to overcome so many of my fears that I know that I can learn to overcome this one, too. I finally realized that people can be a dog’s best friend, and I think I’m ready to move in to a real home! It might take a bit for me to adjust, but my trainer is willing to help me make the transition. I’m not getting any younger, and I have decided I don’t want to live my days out in a kennel doing the same thing day in and day out. I want to be a part of a family, because that’s what dogs are supposed to be. I was afraid at first, but now I'm ready. I know I can do it if you are willing to give me a chance! |
